Hedonistic Liturgies

Series of acrylic and oil paintings on canvas

I love painting people when they are lost in their own thoughts. I am interested in imagining what might be happening within them, shaped by the place, the moment, and the circumstances.

Hedonistic Liturgies depicts people absorbed in moments of pleasure, contemplation, and rest.  Many of these moments take place away from screens: swimming, reading, cooking, playing chess, talking, or simply resting. I am drawn to activities that demand presence and allow us to become fully immersed in an experience.

The series is not a rejection of technology, but rather a celebration of those moments when our attention is no longer dispersed and becomes focused on something immediate and tangible. I think of these everyday activities as small rituals, ordinary acts that acquire value through the attention and pleasure we give them.

At the same time, the characters’ inner worlds remain inaccessible. I can observe their bodies, gestures, and surroundings, but I can only imagine what is happening within them. This distance between what we see and what we imagine is one of the places from which my painting emerges.
