This painting was created as part of Abismos Tempranos, a collective exhibition developed by the artists working at Casa 4 in San Felipe, Bogotá, to commemorate the anniversary of the iconic Colombian film La vendedora de rosas (1998), directed by Víctor Gaviria.
For this tribute, I took as a starting point the phrase from the film “¿Para qué zapatos, si no hay casa?” (“What shoes if there is no home?”) which became the central reference for the painting.
Through images related to childhood, the recurrence of smoke, and lights—fireworks, Christmas lights, and fire, I evoke the atmosphere of the film, accompanied by the marginal architecture of the comunas of Medellín.
Oil and acrylic painting on canvas, 100 cm x 150 cm, 2022.
